At a Glance
This two hour class will focus on the needs of executives, assistants, and anyone aiming to seek a career in the world of development. The goal is to help individuals identify and target a story’s weakness and strengths in order to offer the best coverage, notes, and analysis of a script when communicating with fellow executives and creatives alike.
Story Specialist and script consultant Anthony Grieco will take you through the basics of storytelling and how they are applied to the film and television industry.
From Aristotle to Joseph Campbell, right up to the contemporary interpretations of Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat, this class will break down what all of them have been trying to say in a language and presentation that will streamline your knowledge of cinematic storytelling.
The first hour will focus of all the moving parts that make up story; character, structure, plot and the glue that informs each component, theme. The emphasis here will also be to identify the difference between story and plot. How one is simply an eternal obstacle course (plot) for the heroes internal journey (story).
The second hour will apply that knowledge to specific and contemporary examples of films and TV shows, along with a script analysis of those examples chosen.
