Razor Writing: Making Your Intentions Clear
Any writer who has had a script produced will tell you that the finished product somehow missed the mark; that IT WAS SO CLEAR in the script but somehow the director missed it or misinterpreted it. Perhaps it was the director’s fault. Or perhaps the writer didn’t get everything out of his head and onto the page.
As a director of nearly 200 episodes of prime-time network television, Bethany Rooney has had a lot of experience at reading scripts and determining the writer’s intentions. She has distilled her experiences into a 2-hour workshop that helps writers be concise and precise about their expectations regarding character (using the casting concept paradigm), subtext and tone. You can work on your own script or recall a movie that you’ve seen while learning quick shorthand methods of giving specific information that sets up the plot. Then you’ll receive formulas for arriving at a logline and theme.
You will walk away with the tools necessary to insure that your script is effectively and efficiently communicating your vision.
