Description
Let’s face it, no matter how good your story is, if the dialogue is stilted your movie script, book or play won't make it to first base. It's the first way a film studio or book editor will assess how well you can write. But if you have sparkling, well-constructed dialogue your story and characters will leap off the page. The best way to really improve your dialogue skills is to see great dialogue in action and have specific techniques you can use in different dramatic situations.

Almost all dialogue is based on these techniques and they have been proven to work. Great Dialogue Software™ has a database of thousands of samples of the best dialogue from movies, TV, novels and plays, and they are all available at the click of a button. Just type in the subject matter of your scene and click "Find." Most of these samples have a detailed analysis to instruct you how the dialogue was constructed, the technique used, and why it works.

Called a "must-have" for anyone who seriously aspires to write a great screenplay (but it works for novelists and playwrights too). Invaluable for both comedy and dramatic writers, and you can select either comedy or drama samples (or both).

There are several ways to use the software. You can click on the "Techniques" button to see a list of the 101 dialogue writing techniques. By clicking on a particular technique, you will be taken to a screen that explains the technique in detail and shows how it works. You will also be given numerous examples for each technique.

Alternatively you can type in the subject matter of the scene you are trying to create. For example, if you type the word "threat" you get a series of examples in the "Search Results" box. The Search Results box shows many different variations of dialogue samples that have some kind of threat in them. Clicking on a selection will bring up an example with analysis of the technique used. Note that the quote does not have to actually contain the word "threat" as there are many keywords attached to each sample in the database.

Each scene has a "setup", describing the situation (if necessary) and most of the dialogue samples have detailed notes explaining why the dialogue works and what specific techniques have been used by the writer.

Obviously the writer should not actually copy the dialogue. The point is to see the technique being used and use that same technique to create your own dialogue.

There is also a "Quote of The Day" option, and a "Random Quotes" button which you can use to generate random ideas for inspiration.

So dive in to Great Dialogue today and start giving your characters the words they deserve!
